The McKenzie method consists of the diagnostic and therapeutic techniques used for mechanically caused functional problems of the cervical, thoracic and sacral spine. This method is different because the primary treatment is active self-healing, and not just a passive intervention of the therapist. During the exam, the patient changes positions and movements which enable him/her to control the symptoms. Routine everyday implementation of self-treatment techniques should allow the patient to control his/her condition, and in doing so acquire partial independence from the therapist.
