PIR (Postisometric relaxation)

PIR is a very efficient method used for muscle relaxation. It is a physiotherapeutic technique used in manual medicine in order to prepare the musculature before mobilisation/manipulation. It is based on a weak isometric contraction of a specific muscle simultaneously with an appropriate mild resistance provided by the therapist, after which the targeted painful and taut muscle is elongated.
